Geocache Description:

Easy drive-up virtual. Do not post your answers here, even if encrypted!!

An interesting bit of Arizona history.
This is the site of 'Hi Jolly's last camp', the tomb of an arabic camel driver who came to this country in 1856 as part of an Army experiment to use camels to haul freight across the desert. His actual name was Haidji Ali, but the soldiers quickly anglicized it to Hi Jolly. You can find lots of information about him and the experiment on the web, the best site I've found is at:

UPDATE

Thanks to Conelrad, we now have the answer to a question much asked here: "Ever wonder what's in the pipe? About 10 years ago I went around town asking everyone, even the mayor.....no one knew, but they did find the key and I hear they opened it a week after I left and found pictures, newspaper clippings and a stack of army papers including Hi Jolly's discharge papers etc."

In order to verify your visit please EMail me with one of two bits of information:
1:On the south side of the monument, below the affixed plaque, is a round fixture with a raised oval in the center. When viewed at the proper angle a date (year) can be seen there. What is that date?

2:Optionally, (in case the above isn't visible at night) what is the name and date on the gravestone to the immediate west of Hi Jolly's tomb.

3: Those teams so inclined may skip the EMail and post a photo of a member of your team, with your GPSr clearly visible in the photo, here with your log of the cache.

Of course, do not post your answers here, even if encrypted.
This is a graveyard, so be respectful as you try to imagine what life must have been like back in those days.
