If you spent your childhood in the East or South Counties of San Diego,
you may have heard about the Proctor Valley Monster. What he looks
like is open to debate. Some have said that he is a dinosaur looking
creature. Others have made him out to be some sort of psychotic cow.
Another description is of a 7 foot tall bipedal Bigfoot type creature.
Any way that he is described, there are a few things similar about all
the stories. The creature started out (maybe in the 60's) killing,
dragging away cattle in the area. Farmers claimed to have found where
large bovine bodies had been pulled up into the nearby mountains.
Some farmers and ranchers even claimed to have seen glimpses of the creature.
More recently (70's or 80's) there are stories of lovers and groups of
teens going out into the area and not coming back. Search parties
have found evidence of a struggle and sometimes blood and flesh hanging
from trees.
Now, the area is very inhabited. There are houses out there that
were not there just one year ago. The area is not very rural anymore.
The question is, Did the monster
disappear, or is he just waiting for his next victim?
This cache was designed to be done at night.
You will need a good flashlight. You should also have a friend (with
a flashlight too). Please don't do this cache alone. Monster
or no Monster, it is in a pretty secluded area, and there is safety in
numbers.
Please bring scary things to trade. I would like to try to keep this cache themed if possible. Monsters, skeletons, jack-o-lanterns, aliens. Anything, horror, halloween, or just plain scary.
When you get to the location of the coordinates,
shine your light around and you should find the reflection of a loop of
reflective tape. Walk to that reflection and repeat the process.
Keep your light on, and look around. It may be possible to find a
more distant reflector and take a shortcut. If you get to a reflector,
and cannot find another one, try shining your light in all directions very
slowly. But in general if you continue in the direction you were
going, you should find another reflector within a few steps. Watch
for the first reflector in your headlights (if your vehicle will allow
you to drive up to the starting point),.
The hike is not very far (maybe 500 ft) but it
is up and over a small hill.
You should be following white reflectors.
When you see a red reflector, you have found the cache site. The
cache is within 10 ft of this reflector. If you two see green reflectors...
close together... moving toward you... For
Goodness Sake, Drop your Geoswag and run.
