Geocache Description:

About a mile from the 29th street trail head up Taylor canyon to a bridge that says 2 miles to malan's basin it is about 2000 feet in elevation gain from there.

Cache is a small ammo box painted orange. Original contents are chinese checkers, flashlight, golf balls, jazz watch, nail clipper, key chain, hawaian idol, air force pins, pocket knife, marble, cat toys, dog biscuits, trash bags. This excellent trail branches south from the Taylor canyon trail at the bridge (N41 12.757 W111 54.908) it then climbs very steeply up five switchbacks through a forest of Douglas fir and White fir to 6980 feet Malan's "Peak". After admiring the view you continue southeast and slightly down hill to Malan's Basin, a popular camping area. The basin use to have a two story hotel and several cabins built by Bartholomew "Tim" Malan and his family. This area is still owned by the Malan family so please respect their property. Do not attempt to follow the creek down stream it leads to the brink of 200 foot Malan's Falls where several hikers have fallen to their deaths! Dogs love the hike up to the basin but bring plenty of water. (description source: Sierra Club Outings Guide/Ogden Area)
