Besides good hiking boots there are plenty of refreshments recommended - believe
me, you will need it ;-) You can easily reach the starting point from the subway
station U4 Heiligenstadt by bus 38A. Get off at the station 'Cobenzl' to start
your adventure.
Stage 1:
N 48° 15.940
E 16° 19.180
At the start coordinates you'll find a monument. Of course, it wouldn't be
a real monument without the obligatory inscription ;-) There are two 4-digit
numbers which start like the Vienna district number where you are right now.
Add them together and take the crossfoot. The result is S.
Stage 2:
N 48° 16.066 + (S*10)
E 16° 19.112 - (S*S)
Consider the walk to stage 2 (and subsequently to stage 3) as a warm up phase...
;-) At stage 2 you have a great choice of directions. Take a closer look at
the huge tree in the center of this place. This tree is kind of significant
as it has an inventory number. What a coincidence - this 5-digit number (let's
name it K) also directly takes you to the coordinates of stage 3!
Stage 3:
N 48° 05.515 + K
E 16° 07.164 + K
At stage 3 look for a place where a woodpecker, several beetles, ants and other
small animals literally hang around. It might sound impossible but you have
to count the number of ants. Just start counting with the ones that don't move
so quickly. The result ist Y.
Stage 4:
N (Stage 3N result) + (Y*15*3) - 16
E (Stage 3E result) - (Y*4*10)
Do you remember where the woodpecker in stage 3 was sitting on? This is exactly
what you are looking for right now. The micro cache with further instructions
is hidden in about 1,5 meters height. Don't forget to write down the value of
X.
Stage 5:
At stage 5 you are standing right beside a pretty high construction. It
is tied down with wires from the top to the ground. Examine these points and
collect the value of A, B, C and D.
Stage 6:
N 48° 15.000 + A + D - X + 3 + (S*2)
E 16° 17.000 + B + C - Y
Here you will notice a sign on the stone wall which is quite interesting -
especially for a Geocacher. The crossfoot of the 4-digit number on top is G.
The 4-digit number in the last row is E.
Stage 7:
N 48° 15.265 + Y + E + S
E 16° 16.375 + E + G + G
At stage 7 you'll find the second micro cache hidden in a tree hole. It contains
a little surprise which will reveal the final cache location :-) Please be careful
so that you don't lose anything from the micro cache on the ground.
Stage 8:
The cache itself is a semi micro cache. This means it is about three times the
size of a 35mm film canister. The cache
initially contained seven items.
I hope you enjoyed your journey!
You know, the shortest distance between two points is always a straight line. Right now you have probably discovered that this is often not the easiest way ;-) So I'm very anxious to
hear about your personal route to the cache.
