This is a tough hike through the scrub oak in the area called
Interlaken in the Heber Valley.
This cache is hidden near the highest of the big rocks in the hill
behind Interlaken, near Midway. You can access the ridge leading up
to the top from the top of the Donkey Ridge Trail which is part of
the Dutch Hollow section of Wasatch State Park. You can park at the
end of the pavement, follow the trail North until you intersect the
Donkey Ridge Trail which climbs up to the West. Once you are near
the upper trailhead, you take off cross country following deer
trails through the scrub oak. Try to connect the open spaces. If
you have a sense of the big picture, you will not need the GPSr
until you are on top. Go to the highest of the big rocks. You can
also park at the top of the Donkey Ridge trailhead which is a lot
shorter. There are restrictions on the time of year you can park up
there. There is a small parking area if you enter Interlaken and
head up to the Northeast. As you near the top of a steep road,
watch for the state park sign indicating a trailhead. Start hiking
along the trail until you feel it's wise to head up through the
scrub. Now matter how you get there the view is stupendous. The big
rock at the cache is a great place to sit. Be careful on the way
down. Getting down is tricker than getting up. The scrub oak is
tenacious. I have seen deer, skunks, marmots and mountain lions
crossing the hillside. Best wishes and don't get hurt.
7/7/09: My friend, pokernut, will be adopting this cache. If he has
not already found it, I want him to log it as a find whenever he
has a chance to find it. I know it's bad form to log your own
caches but in this case he is adopting it. Thanks. Scubadog
