Geocache Description:

An easy one this, about 230 yards from the beach slip road.

This virtual cache is in fact a vent of a sewage pipe! Now hold on a minute, I hear you say! Dont worry this sewage pipe has not been used since April 6th 1969, when the sewage works north of Southport Pier were removed.
This vent was left in the sand because of the difficulty of removing it!
There are markings all around it showing the maker and, I assume, the actual depth of the vent. The depth markings are written in roman numerals and we would like you to email us with the middle number please. No guessing! For the really tech-cacher you could email a digital photo of the middle number as well. (Keep under 100kb's please)
This cache, at 230yrds from the sea wall, should obviously not be tackled at high tide! See high and low tide info here: (visit link)
The Geo Trio thanks Paul Wisse, information officer of the Sefton Coastal Strategy Unit for the background on the vent.
Finally, take a football with you and try and chip the ball into the vent, (you'll see what I mean) it took us an hour in swirling wind! Ruth holds the 'Get it in' record!
Later, Will, Mike, Ruth & Jamie.
