E: Start the hike at the Casa Branca train station. The
abandoned railway runs for about 5 km through the pastures. There
are several fences and gates along the way. Please leave the gates
as you found them (opened or closed).
At the end of the track and at the foot of the hills is the old
train station where the ore was loaded. There are several mines on
the slope above the train station. The cache is a round container,
about 20 cm of diameter, located near the entrance of one of the
mines.
The first part of the hike doesn't present special difficulties,
apart from the fences. The track was abandoned a long time ago and
may be, in certain places, hard to distinguish, or even be
inaccessible. Try to step forward a few meters and look for it
again, bearing in mind that the train could only take wide curves.
This section is about 4 km.
The second part of the hike there are steep sections and very
dense bushes. Strong trousers and long sleeved jacket is
recommended. This section is about 1 km. There are multiple
entrances to the mines. Some are just tunnels in the vertical
cliffs, others are big, deep holes in the ground, so be extra
careful in the last part. The mines were abandoned a long time ago
and may be dangerous. To find the cache there is no need to enter
any of the mines.
You'll probably need about 5 hours for this cache, including the
return, so take plenty of water for the trip.
P: Começe o percurso na Estação de Casa Branca. O caminho
de ferro abandonado percorre cerca de 5 km por entre pastagens.
Pelo caminho será necessário ultrapassar várias cercas e portões.
Por favor deixe sempre os portões nas mesmas condições em que os
encontrar (abertos ou fechados).
No fim do ramal e no sopé da encosta encontra-se a antiga
estação onde era carregado o minério. As várias minas encontram-se
distribuídas pela encosta acima da estação. A cache é um recipiente
redondo com cerca de 20 cm de diâmetro e encontra-se à entrada de
uma das minas.
A primeira parte do percurso não apresenta dificuldade especial,
para além da transposição das vedações. A linha foi abandonada já
há bastante tempo e pode ser, em certos lugares, difícil de
distinguir, ou estar mesmo inacessível. Avance um pouco e tente
reencontra-la, tendo em atenção que o comboio só podia descrever
curvas relativamente largas. Esta secção tem cerca de 4 km.
Na segunda parte do percurso encontrará troços com bastante
inclinação e vegetação muito densa. É recomendável o uso de calças
grossas e casaco de mangas compridas. Esta secção tem cerca de 1
km. Existem múltiplas entradas para as minas. Algumas são galerias
nas paredes verticais, outras são buracos profundos no chão; tenha
especial cuidado nesta zona. As minas estão abandonadas há muitos
anos e podem ser perigosas. Para procurar a cache não necessita
entrar em qualquer mina.
Deve necessitar de cerca de 5 horas para completar esta cache,
incluindo o regresso; leve bastante água para a
viagem.
