Geocache Description:

The memorial for Red Dog is located at the entrance to Dampier in Western Australia.

Red Dog, a kelpie cattle dog born in 1971, was initially called Tally Ho. After being moved by his original owners from Paraburdoo to Dampier in an open trailer he underwent a name change due to the thick covering of red dust that had coated him on his journey.
After arrival at Dampier, Red Dog chose the life of a wanderer and travelled widely around the Pilbara. He was well looked after by all but always returned to Dampier (when it suited him). His modes of transport included road train, ore train, private vehicle, bus and his trusty paws.
Red Dog epitomised the easy going friendly nature of the Nor'Westers.
After his death in 1979 a brass statue was erected "by the many friends made during his travels".
