"Clean Up!" Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

starbase12: Thanks to all who visited my "Clean Up" cache! It was definitely a success as the trash is almost all gone. I am archiving the cache for now so that I may move it to another location which is in need of some cleaning. As soon as it is ready I will relist it. Thanks again!

Geocache Description:

There is no need to bring anything to leave in this cache, because as the name implies, the purpose of this cache is to "Clean Up!"

Since I started Geocaching the one thing I have enjoyed the most is exploring areas that I never before knew existed. I have had the opportunity to get off the "beaten path" and see some of the really beautiful sights that nature has to offer. Unfortunately, some of these "off the beaten path" areas have been corrupted by the irresponsible elements of our society. Few things pain me more than to see, otherwise beautiful natural surroundings, polluted with beer cans, empty hamburger bags, old furniture and such. Why people choose to throw their trash out into the beautiful outdoors is beyond me. That is why I have placed the "Clean Up" cache.

This cache is stocked with an ample supply of trash bags, twist ties, and rubber gloves. Instead of trading trinkets, just sign the log book, enjoy the scenery and on your way out, please take a bag and "Trash Out." At one time this cache area was a really beautiful place but it can be saved. This area has a body of water that flows through it, whose banks bear the scars of many beer parties, and irresponsible motorists. Walk this area and you will see what I mean.

The cache itself is a coffee can that has been completely wrapped in camouflage tape. I have covered the cache with natural materials in hopes of it not being discovered by non-cachers.

As you are driving along and you get close to the cache site, you will see a break in the tree-line on the east side of the road. Where the trees break you will also see a mound of dirt. This is located on the paved road about halfway between the railroad tracks and a small bridge. This is the best place to park and walk into the cache area. Once you begin your walk you will see that this area truly has potential and offers many areas to explore along the banks of the water. As you make your way toward the cache you nmay notice some fluctuations in the readings on your GPS unit. It should correct itself if you will just continue to follow your instincts. I do not know what causes such fluctuations but when I placed the cache and walked back to it I noticed them, but each time it did correct itself.

After you have visited the cache, there is a benchmark on the rail of the small bridge back out on the paved road. Now would be a great opportunity to log one.

I encourage all Cachers to find a place that needs to be cleaned up and place a "Clean Up" cache. For the sake of our sport, our children, and our grand-children, let's take care of this Planet Earth. It is the only one we have.
