Geocache Description:

This cache is to look for the original Old World (eg Europe) places which gave rise to major New World (eg Canadian) locations.

This cache can be logged for a find of any Old World location, when this may have given its name to a major New World place. "Major" could mean: World Famous, or population over 50,000. Examples would be Calgary in Mull, Scotland (which gave its name to Calgary in Canada) or Melbourne in Yorkshire, England (which gave its name to Melbourne in Australia).

Note that you may NOT log a place in the New World (eg the US). There is a cache The (Not-So) Famous Cities of the World" which already covers this.

You don't have to prove that the Old World location is the genuine original (if you can that's great) and therefore there could be several Old World places linked with the New World. That's fine too, provided the spelling of those places is the same.

In order to log this cache, take a photo of your gps next to a nameboard for the location. Log the coordinates and upload your photo immediately Any information you can give about the place (or its twin) would be good. Only one log per caching team and only one log per place in the Old World (although there could be several Old World places with the same name as one New World location).

In summary, you MAY NOT log New World locations such as North and South America, New Zealand and Australia. You MAY log places in the Old World such as Europe, Asia and Africa. Logs which do not comply with the terms of this cache will be deleted.

This cache was inspired by "The (Not-so) Famous Cities of the World" by SherwoodForest, which covers small town America named for the grand places of the old world.
