I have always believed that it is the history of the cache and not
the container that is important. I am trying to keep this one going
to keep our history intact. Enjoy it if you like or skip it if you
like. Just enjoy what you do. The photo above is what the cache
area looked like when the container was placed in 2000.
History of the cache placement, by
mikelee, original co-owner of the Boilermaker Cache:
A little of the history of this cache: Ben is the man who
originally found the spot for this cache, I knew Ben from the dorms
and we were in school together. We found out about Geocaching, and
we happen to have GPS's so next logical step was to hide our own.
We went out to Walmart and purchased an ammo crate, pens and a
composition notebook and set out on the hunt for the locale, we
were looking for a location that wouldn't be found by accident,
scenic and somewhat away from the vandals of campus. We didn't find
a place right away, but Ben on one of his wanderings happened
across the location and stashed it. Guess that was Nov. of 2000,
which means it was my Senior year at Purdue and Ben's Junior. We
visited it off and on throughout the time we were there, and I
actually have some pictures of the original log book. Each time I
happened into the area, I would check on it, and it was always
there, with some amusing remarks and a LOT of logs. The best was
someone calling the police after running across an ammo crate in a
tree. Was quite surprised at the life of the cache as well as the
following behind it. We did follow Geocaching for a while, but over
time, it went by the wayside but people were there to keep up the
cache. We also learned at the first "Chicagoland" Geocache picnic
we were actually some of the youngest (non-family) geocachers out
there. Met some really great people though.

Bourne
This cache is called the "Boilermaker Cache" since it is located
near Purdue University and placed there by students. it is a
relatively easy one but still not right out in the open - but I
would give both terrain and difficulty a rating of 1.
