This virtual proves that some parts of the "Wild West" remained wild well into the 20th century.
You're looking for a stone which marks the location of a fatal shoot-out; the result of a dispute over the use of the very path you're following. (And you thought your neighbors were difficult!)
To log the cache, email us the date of the event on the stone, or post a (non-spoiler) picture of yourself and/or your GPS at the spot.
The route to the cache is a wide, sandy trail with no significant elevation gain. It's only 3/4 of a mile from the closest parking area and no bushwhacking is required. This is the high desert, however - no matter how easy the hike, always bring your water!
After you've found the stone, you may want to continue another 1/4 mile to the ruins of a gold-stamping mill. Also in the area are the rusted remains of a windmill and several cars and trucks. All these artifacts were owned by a long-time resident of the area and something of a local legend. (This is a historic site, so please - no souvenir-collecting.)
