Geocache Description:

05 May 2024, 09:00 - 10:30

Friends of Waurn Ponds Creek is a local community organisation whose primary purpose is to improve the environs around Waurn Ponds creek as an area for people to enjoy, but to also help protect the area as a habitat for the vulnerable Yarra Pygmy Perch through regular rubbish removal from the creek.

I have decided to create a CITO to assist them with their next event, details of which you can see here. The posted coordinates are their meeting area, from here rubbish removal will be anywhere between Ghazeepore Rd and Rossack Drive. I as CO will remain in the immediate vicinity of the posted coords during the posted time of this CITO (9am - 10:30am).

As with all CITO's, this is a participation event. Should you wish to attend, there is an expectation that you will actively participate in rubbish removal for most if not all of the duration of the event.

Please note that there is an area currently fenced off towards the Rossack Drive end for rabbit baiting. Please do not cross the orange plastic barrier at any time and follow any instructions on signage. If you wish to bring your 4 legged friends please ensure they remain on leash at all times and do not cross the barriers.

The terrain rating is indicative of the minimum terrain you will encounter, given the objective is to remove rubbish from the creek. Note that the banks of the creek can be steep in parts so please be aware if your surroundings and keep an eye on junior cachers. Please also be aware that wriggle sticks/nope ropes/danger noodles (i.e. snakes) can be present in this area. Whilst less active at this time of year please still remain vigilant.

Please see here for details of City of Greater Geelongs Rabbit Baiting program for April-May 2024.

Closest train Station: Waurn Ponds Train Station (approx 2km, 26 minutes walk. Involves hills)
