May 2, 2000 was a historical day that marked the 330th anniversary of The Hudson's Bay Company being granted a royal charter in England with the jurisdiction to control administration and commerce in "Rupert's Land", governed for the crown by Rupert, Duke of Cumberland, the cousin of King Charles II. The land is a 1.5 million square mile area of what is now Canada around Hudson Bay.
Between April 1, 2000 and May 2, 2000 the each of the inhabitants of Eskimo Point in Nunavut wore Yellow Swatches on the right knees of their pants in honour of Nunavut's 1st anniversary and the 330th anniversary of this historic moment for The Hudson's Bay Company.
Each year thereafter on May 2nd, the inhabitants of Eskimo Point always wore a yellow swatch and annually this came known as Yellow Swatch Day.
This year on May 2, 2024, once again the inhabitants of Eskimo Point will be wearing a Yellow Swatch to mark this historic occasion.
