Geocache Description:

07 May 2024, 18:30 - 20:00

This is the tenth Calderdale-based pub event which myself and dibby3 have hosted.

We will be returning to the Shears Inn, Paris Gates for this one, and will be there from 6.30pm - the event is scheduled to run until 8pm, but there is every chance we will stay later than that (and the logbook will remain open as long as we are still in the pub).

The Shears Inn refers to itself as a friendly traditional pub serving home cooked hot & cold food. There is a good selection of drinks behind the bar and they have quite an extensive food menu - all home-cooked.

Please log a Will Attend if you are planning to join us, and note in your log whether food is required or not - this will enable me to the let the pub know and to ensure we have a space big enough to accommodate us all.

For those of you driving - there is a large car park right next to the pub. Trust your SatNav as you will be going down a narrow cobbled road. If you are using the train or bus - the pub is located a 10 minute or so walk from the town centre.

A table has been reserved for us. All cachers are welcome - new and existing - if you are not sure who to look for, ask staff for the reservation for Fiona.

Trackables - any which fit into a small tupperware box (with the lid on) are more than welcome. If you wish to bring anything larger, you are responsible for passing it along or taking it back if no-one is willing.

The Shears Inn, at Paris Gates, is one of the most famous pubs in Halifax, and probably among the oldest too. It is a quaint inn next to an ancient pack-horse bridge, "Boy's Bridge" over the former canal and the Hebble Brook. It has one of the most unusual approaches in the business - along the cobbled streets in the shadow of Holdsworth's Shaw Lodge Mills complex. In the nineteenth century this historic inn was the social spot for workers from the nearby mills.
