Geocache Description:

11 May 2024, 11:00 - 14:30

"A pristine, untouched monadnock ecosystem filled with beautiful and rare plant species, Panola Mountain is one of the natural wonders of the National Heritage Area."

Join the Georgia Geocacher's Association and Arabia Alliance at Panola Mountain State Park. We're teaming up to provide you with two events in one!

We'll start with the GGA's monthly event, followed by a Geo101 Class presented and taught by our friends from Arabia Alliance.

Times:

11:00 am - 12:30 pm: Monthly GGA Meeting

12:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Geo101 Class

GGA Event: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

Speaking of monadnocks, what's that you may ask?

Well, " A monadnock is an isolated mountain representing an erosional residual (peak or knob). The penultimate stage of the geomorphic cycle developed under humid temperate conditions is the peneplain."

Huh?... Attend this meeting and find out what that actually means.

What are we going to do?

  • Converse with our geo-friends and make/welcome new friends.
  • Announcements about GGA activities and upcoming events.
  • A speech/presentation by the Program Manager at Arabia Mountain National Heritage Area.
    • She will help us understand the geology of the area and what this whole "monandock" thing means.
  • Speaking of rocks...
    • How about some "rock" themed games and challenges?
  • Milestone recognition and pictures.
  • Group pictures.
  • Of course there will be prizes, laughter and lots of fun!

Geo101 by Arabia Alliance: 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

  • Geocaching etiquitte.
  • And best of all, we'll take our new knowledge to the trail and find some caches!!
