Come and join me and other geocaching enthusiasts for some good food and conversation about anything geocaching.
We will be in the banquet room.
No purchase is necessary.
Please post a 'Will Attend' log if you are planning on joining us, so the management will have an idea how many will be coming.
Early May is big in the geocaching world for several reasons.
May 2 is known as BLUE SWITCH DAY.
On May 2, 2000 – with only one day of advance notice to the public – the United States Government threw the proverbial “blue switch” to remove “selective availability” from the global GPS system, and to thereby make more accurate GPS readings available to all users.
And geocachers have many events associated with BLUE SWITCH DAY.
May 3, 2000, was the day the first 'stash' was hidden near Beaverton, Oregon, and was the beginning of geocaching. (https://www.geocaching.com/about/history.aspx)
May 4 is the date STAR WARS fans associate with "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU", and geocachers and others have followed, with "MAY THE FOURTH BE WITH YOU" events.
May 5 is Cinco de Mayo, a day celebrated by Mexicans and Mexican-Americans for a victory in a battle in Mexico in 1862.
(Not to be confused with Mexican Independence Day, which occurs on September 16.)
But it is mostly celebrated by Americans, just to celebrate, due to advertising campaigns initiated in the 1980's by beer, wine, and tequila companies. And geocachers have many events associated with this, too.
We can discuss any or all of these, or none of these,or anything else geocaching related, or not.
