Geocache Description:

26 April 2024, 12:15 - 13:30

It’s been a long time since I first wanted to host a CITO here in Poleg Lake. There isn’t much nature in this area of the country, so we have to preserve the little we have.

Join us today for this family-friendly event as we clean the lake and the area that surrounds it.

Meet me at the published location where I’ll hand out trash bags and gloves and you’ll be able to sign the logbook. If you have a trash picker, feel free to bring one.

Afterwards we'll travel along the path that encircles the lake. Note that the southern part of the trail is a swamp and gets somewhat flooded at this season, so bring a good pair of shoes. It's possible to cross without getting wet or muddy, though it may be a little challenging.

There'll also be a kayak or two, so after completing the trail we'll head back to the starting point where there's relatively easy access to enter the lake and we can do our best to collect garbage from inside the lake as well.

Hope to see you there!

A few notes:

  1. Driving here is not easy, but it's doable. Search for אגמון פולג on Waze or Google Maps. It'll take you through the Beit Yehoshua industrial park. From there it's a very bumpy road until the lake, but if my car can do it I'm sure yours can too.
  2. Driving here is easy through moshav Udim. Don't try navigating to the geocache's published location. Instead use Waze or Google Maps to drive to the Trailhead waypoint, and then continue driving without the app to the Parking waypoint.
  3. Most of the route is not shaded. Please bring sufficient water, a hat, and some sunscreen.
  4. The local municipality asked that after the CITO we drop the garbage in the trashbins near the parking waypoint.
  5. As the host of the event, I'm obliged to mention that there are signs warning not to swim in the lake. Those were posted for safety reasons. Whoever goes in does so at their own risk. The lake itself is outside the juristriction of the local municipality. I discussed our plans with a lake restorator who assured that kayaking to collect the garbage is a net good for the local wildlife.
  6. And most importantly - After the event, everyone's welcome to join for the picnic! See the event page for details.

P.S. As it turns out, whoever will attend this CITO will be receiving this souvenir:
