Livy Strong, the chairperson of the Jericho Underhill Land Trust (JULT), identified an area of the Mills Riverside Park (MRP) where maintenance along the main path into the hiking and biking loops would be greatly appreciated. The JULT is the body that owns and stewards 11 different properties in the towns of Jericho and Underhill. Several of those places contain geocaches! Please note that the trails are closed to biking at this time.
Our job with this CITO will be to address the drainage ditches along the path between the posted coordinates and the reference point for the culvert. The primary goal is to remove a large pile of sticks near the posted coordinates and scatter those sticks in the nearby woods. Removing sticks from the ditch between the large pile and the culvert identified by the reference point is also a goal. Finally, making sure that the culvert at the reference point is clear is a third goal.
This event will happen rain or shine. Being spring, be prepared for muddy trails and water in the ditches. Dress for conditions! It may be time for seasonal bug hatches, so be prepared for that too. Ticks are sadly a possibility almost anywhere in the woods.
Work gloves, good boots, and rakes will be the most useful items.
Participation will net you the CITO Season 1 Souvenir. If you've never cached at MRP, there are several to find outside the event time. You might want to spend some time playing some Geogames - especially #1, #2, #3, and #4 ahead of time. If you're working on the Golden Oldies Challenge, the current cache at the #53 spot is at MRP. We also expect that five new caches in MRP will be published sometime during the event.
