Geocache Description:

02 June 2024, 20:30 - 23:00

Kicking off summer with a view of the stars! I thought it would be fun to take an evening and look at some stars. The Placerville Observatory was kind enough to opens its doors to us geocachers on a wonderful Sunday evening. In fact, randallh asked me if I wanted to help set up another of these events, and I was more than excited to. This gives us geocachers to go a little interstellar! This is not a community open time, the observatory is opening to us, for the geocaching cummunity, for this event and event attendees. General public times are on Friday and Saturday nights, we get this spot to ourselves on Sunday! Thanks to the Placerville Observatory and randallh for allowing this event and for offering their time to us geocachers.

Please log your will attend so I can get a count of attendees to randallh so he can know an approximation of people and be set up for that. Note in your Will Attend if you may be bringing others (kids, family, etc.) to allow for a count of people allowing randallh to set up for the appropriate amount of attendees.

  • Location: Placerville Observatory - A short hike from the parking lot
  • Date: Sunday, June 2th, 2024
  • Time: 8:30pm - 11:00pm (come when you want, leave when you want, but read the description below so you know what/where we will be if you show up after 8:55ish)
  • Bring: 😷 if desired, the path is lit, so just follow the path up to the observatory

Event will be located at observatory.

THE PLAN:

  • 8:24: Offical start - sunset begins at this time.
  • 8:30 - 8:50ish: Logbook signing, meet and greet, grab bag of event swag (first 24 will get a little bag, after that loose items up for grabs)
  • 8:50ish: go to the Observatory with randallh, check out space and stuff! (Sunset is a 8:24, so this is dependant on the light)
  • 11:00: departing for the evening, thanks to the Observatory for their time

time is a little later in the evening on a Sunday, but the event is open just to attendees of this event and we can't see stars and really get into the telescope views until it gets dark.

SWAG bags will be handed out to first 24 attendees ( containing geocaching goodies like: containers, pens, keychain lights, trackables, notebooks). So get to the logbook when you arrive, make sure you get your SWAG while you can, supplies are limited to the first 24.
