Geocache Description:

20 April 2024, 10:00 - 11:00

Cache In Trash Out® (CITO) is an environmental initiative supported by the geocaching community. Since 2002, CITO has enabled geocachers to beautify and restore natural and urban spaces. In that time, there have been more than 536,000 logged attendances at nearly 29,000 events where geocachers helped improve the outdoors.

Actions often speak louder than words. By participating in a CITO Event, whether by collecting trash, planting trees, or crafting new homes for pollinators, we make our world a better place. Each CITO we attend is a testament to care: care for others, our communities, and our planet.

CITO Events can be a safe, socially distant way to gather that adheres to your local laws and health guidance for outdoor activities. As with all outdoor activities, please follow the most current regulations from public health authorities.

Where: Loughgall Country Park

When: 10:00-11:00, Saturday 20th April 2024

Why: To help promote the growth of wildflowers in your area, and give the bees a little treat!

Your Task: To make some bee bombs!

What to bring: You may want to bring some thin gloves if you don't want to get your hands slightly muddy

Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events globally including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.

Bees are fundamental to food production and pollinating crops. They are also vital to the wider natural environment, pollinating wildflowers and trees which then support other insects, birds and mammals. There are thousands of pollinators in the UK and Ireland but they are under threat from habitat loss, invasive species, pests and disease and climate change. To better protect pollinators and help restore the natural world, everyone can:

  1. Grow more flowers, shrubs and trees
  2. Let your garden grow wild
  3. Cut your grass less often
  4. Don’t disturb insect nest and hibernation spots
  5. Think carefully about whether to use pesticides

So let's be one of those billion people taking part and help to do something good on the run up to Earth Day with this CITO!

What are Bee Bombs?

Bee Bombs are a fun, environmental craft which recycles biodegrable materials and allows you to transport a package of wildflower seeds in soil, ready for planting. The package style also allows you to gift the Bee Bomb to a family member or friend!

All materials will bee provided.

The wildflower planting season is active from March-April so get planting in your garden or local area to promote the growth of native wildflowers and provide a pitstop for busy pollinators.

Best wishes, warmest regards

Please note that there is a charge of around £2.60 for parking in the park, regardless of how long you stay. Upon entering the Park, you will reach a barrier, please go into the reception on your left to pay for the parking and the receptionist will lift the barrier.  If you would prefer not to pay for parking and wish to park in the village, please be considerate of the residents when choosing your parking spot.
