Geocache Description:

20 April 2024, 09:00 - 11:00

This CITO is a local cemetery is having a work party on April 20th to help remove very overgrown salal and huckleberry, a few scotchbroom, or clean headstones. With permission from the Seabeck Cemetery Restoration coordinator, I am inviting my fellow geocachers to come and join the work party.  They are aware that I am offering up 2 hours of assistance for those who would like to join them.

Personal Connection:  My great grandparents and uncle on my mothers side of the family are buried in the cemetery.  They moved to the Crosby area around 1915 where my grandfather was raised.  I learned several years ago that a local person was working hard to get headstones for those who didn't have one.  My great grandparents and uncle got headstones unknown to my family.  I learned about this when talking to the Seabeck Conference Grounds Exectutive Director and saw my great uncles headstone.  I loved that they made sure that everyone without one received one.

Time: Come join from 9:00 am to 11:00 am; however you are welcome to stay longer if you desire, because they are working until 1:00 pm. It would be great if you could committe at of your time.

The Seabeck Restoration Cemetery work party will be there from 9 am to 1 pm.

Terrain:  A rating 2 because of the uneven ground/elevation, the underbrush, tree roots plus the possible wet ground if it was to rain.

Supplies: Gloves and  tools (they don't have extra supplies) that can be used removing the underbrush cut and pull out the salal and undergrowth is what you'll need. Additonal something to kneel on maybe and a bucket to haul out the salal, etc.

Parking: On Dancing Deer (which is not a lot of space) or wherever they can find a spot. Carpooling is always good. There is parking along the Seabeck Holly Hwy at Dancing Deer Way plus also at the Seabeck Community Center.

Weather:  Please plan for rainy or cold weather, I will try to keep things posted on what weather may be like on the day of the event as it gets closer. Seabeck has been really up and down on its weather this winter.

Facilities: There is no restrooms or water source at the cemetery. There is a porta potty down behind the Seabeck Pizza right by the Seabeck Store. Please make sure you bring water if you need some.
