Geocache Description:

15 June 2024, 09:00 - 09:30

The cities of Georgetown, Sadieville and the Georgetown/Scott County Tourism Commission are pleased to announce the opening of the Scott County African American Heritage Geotrail!

The Scott County African American Heritage Geotrail has geocaches for everyone regardless of your skill level in geocaching. The geotrail will spotlight African American historic sites to draw attention to the rich history of the Georgetown/Scott County area. This event is sponsored by the Georgetown Scott County Tourism Commission.

The Scott County African American Heritage Geotrail consists of approximately 10 geocaches located in Georgetown and surrounding Scott County. Each registered individual will receive a passport at the event detailing the coordinates and significant history of each of the sites. At each site you will need to locate the geocache container that contains a log. Written on the log and cache container (in most cases) will be a code word that you need to write down on the passport in the corresponding block to show that you have found the cache. Upon completion of all of the geocaches listed on the passport along with each corresponding code word, you will need to bring your completed passport to the Georgetown Scott County Tourism Office, 399 Outlet Center Dr, Georgetown, to receive a FREE trackable 2" geocoin.

Please note that we only have a certain amount of items so be sure to arrive at the start to begin the trail at the opening time. Due to the limited quantity of geocoins, please allow only one geocoin per family or individual geocacher.

This is a FREE event and is open to anyone interested in learning about the history of African Americans in the Georgetown and surrounding Scott County areas. There will be free water and snacks available for participants. You can pick up your passport at the event location during the event. You will also need to sign a liability waiver prior to beginning the Scott County African American Heritage Trail.

The event will be held at Ed Davis Park, 151 Ed Davis Ln, Georgetown, Kentucky.

There will also be a new virtual cache and new Adventure Lab with bonus cache to be published just prior to the event.

There will also be a paddle mix (GCAMTVQ Pirate Paddle Mix on Elkhorn Creek) at Great Crossing on Friday, June 14th for those coming to the area for the geotrail. There will be a re-release of newly published paddle geocaches along Elkhorn Creek in the Great Crossing area. This will be listed as a separate geocaching event. You don't have to have a kayak or canoe to attend the actual event, but the geocaches will be located on the water.

There will also be a Cache In Trash Out (CITO) (GCAMTXC Let's Clean Up Scott County Park!) scheduled for the morning of Sunday, June 16th in Georgetown.
