Coffee to Kick-off National Nurses Day!
On May 6, 1982, the American Association of Nurses (ANA) formally acknowldged this date as "National Nurses Day." This affirmed a joint resolution of the U.S. Congress that designated May 6th as "National Recognition Day for Nurses." That same year, then-President Reagan proclaimed this recognition as well. Realizing a single day was not enough to celebrate these wonderful health care providers, the ANA expanded this recognition such that a week-long celebration of nurses was to be held annually from May 6th through May 12th. A much more detailed history and timeline of "National Nurses Day" and "National Nurses Week" has been compiled by the ANA, and can be found here.
With today kicking-off this special week, raise your cup of coffee in salute to our nurses! And give that nurse a second cheers if s/he is also a geocacher!
