Total Solar Eclipse 2024
A person who chases eclipses is known as a umbraphile, meaning shadow lover. Umbraphiles often travel for eclipses and use various tools to help view the sun including solar viewers also known as eclipse glasses, as well as telescopes.
I thought that it would be interesting to have a geocaching event during the solar eclipse, though it is a Monday afternoon, note the next chance for such an event falls on August 24, 2044. It’s best we take full advantage of this one. The sun will be covered 97% by the moon at the location I’ve selected and only for a period of 4 minutes, that is if we have a cooperative weather pattern.
SAFETY:
Please note that the only safe time to look at the sun without solar filters is during the 2-3 minutes of total eclipse. It is never safe to look at the sun without solar filters during any other phases of the eclipse. Sunglasses, even those with a very dark tint are not sufficient protection.
Ensure your eyes are always protected by using solar eclipse viewers that meet international standard ISO 12312-2 for safe viewing. Make sure that the glasses are not damaged or scratched before use. I hope to have a few 2024 CE and ISO Certified Solar Eclipse Observation Glasses available to pass around.
It is very important to guard against temporary or permanent damage to the eyes.

As with other geocaching events travel bug exchange and stories (hints) are encouraged. Remember to bring along items that will make you comfortable such as chairs, beverages and snacks it is after all a show. In event of inclement weather there is a shelter which I believe we can use.
