GAGB 2024 CITO Week

This is just one of the many events to be be held across the UK, Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands as part of the GAGB CITO Week.

As part of the above and British Canoeing’s “The Big Paddle Cleanup 2024" we are organizing a CITO on the River Avon between The Boathouse, Newbridge and the locks at Saltford Brassmill.

We have arranged portage at Channel Kayaks next to The Boathouse.  They have kindly waived the £5 fee for launching from their pontoon but will put out a donation box for Dorothy House Hospice.  There is also a tap and pay machine for anyone who prefers cashless.  Please note this is NOT a requirement to join us and all donations are voluntary.  No purchase is necessary in The Boathouse.

We are planning to meet at The Boathouse in time to be on the water for 9.00. There is free parking at The Boathouse.

For those without kayaks there is some space in boats but this will have to be organized and may not be available if you turn up on the day. Please contact the CO via Groundspeak messages.

Please bring with you any litter pickers and gloves if you have them.  We will supply bags and disposable gloves.  We will dispose of any rubbish.

You are responsible for your own safety.  Please ensure you bring your own buoyancy aids etc.  This is done at your own risk.

If you do not want to go on the river you are welcome to come along and cheer the intrepid sailors on their way.  The Boathouse will be open for tea, coffee and breakfast. No purchase is necessary.

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain

Saturday 25th May until Friday 31st May

The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (GAGB). The Association was established in 2003 to provide a national geocaching organisation and serve as a UK point of contact for geocachers, landowners, the media and others with an interest in geocaching.

As part of its 10th anniversary, it was decided to hold a CITO weekend in May which has now became an annual event. This later evolved into a full CITO Week, with the first one being held in September 2019. It would be great to see more of these icons pop up across the country and for other members to hold their own events where it is not feasible to attend one that a committee member has organised.

There is a lot more information about what we do, including the landowner database, comprehensive event listings and Seeker e-magazine at www.gagb.org.uk. If you would like to get involved follow the link and find our contact details.

The GAGB are encouraging everyone to organise CITO events this week, in part to pay-back for what we hope will have been a great summer of caching, and also to make things more pleasant for future cachers. If this CITO is the nearest one to you, please come along!

More information could well be announced, so either keep watch on the listing or log your 'Will Attend' to make sure you receive the announcement logs.
