Meet us at the Wedge/Little Grand Canyon in the San Rafael Swell for a weekend of geocaching, friends, and fun! The main event will be a potluck dinner on Saturday, April 27th at 6:00PM, but you may camp all weekend if you wish. If you plan on attending please add a log with the number of people in your group so everyone can plan for the potluck. I'll be camped there for about a full week before the event in site 6, where there's plenty of room for trailers and tents.
There are numerous opportunities for geocaching, sightseeing, hiking, and mountain biking in the area. Nearby attractions include the Wedge Overlook into the spectacular Little Grand Canyon, Buckhorn Wash and its amazing pictograph panel, an abandoned 1880s railroad grade with old structures and some scattered petroglyphs nearby, and the Good Water Rim mountain bike trail that runs right by camp.
Camping is primitive--there's no water, hookups, or garbage service--so bring everything you need. There are no toilets at the campsite, but there are vault toilets 2.5 miles south down the road at the Wedge Overlook, and more vault toilets 4.5 miles northwest at the Buckhorn Flat campground.
There's plenty of room in the campsite for tents, trailers, motor homes, etc., and anyone is welcome to set up right there. If you'd prefer more privacy there are other campsites in the area, with no fees for camping, but they fill up quickly on weekends.
To get there, I'd recommend the road coming in from near Castle Dale, which leaves Highway 10 at N 39° 13.248' W 110° 59.837' (about a mile north of Castle Dale). Most other roads would also be fine (they are all decent gravel roads), but that one is the most direct. If you want to cache along the way, there's a trail of geocaches along the road coming in from Huntington starting at N 39° 17.841' W 110° 54.215'.
I'll be bringing a fair amount of firewood, but if anyone would be willing to contribute some more that'd be welcomed (don't feel obligated to go out and buy some, though--only if you have some lying around).
