Geocache Description:

At the going down of the sun and in the morning we will remember them.

The Falklands War of 1982 made a huge impression on me as I was living in Portsmouth at the time. The atmosphere on the Hot Walls as I waved the victorious fleet home into Portsmouth Harbour at the end of the conflict was truly amazing and it’s an experience I will never forget.

So when I received this Virtual Reward, where to use it was an easy decision.

The two oval plaques (one on each side of the arch) bear the following inscriptions.

The Falklands Arch opened by The Right Honourable Baroness Thatcher LG OM FRS Prime Minister 1979 -1990 and Mrs Mary Fagan JP HM Lord-Lieutenant of Hampshire on 12 May 2007 to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the end of the Falklands Conflict on 14 June 1982.

On 2 April 1982, Argentina invaded the British Sovereign territory of the Falkland Islands. A task force was dispatched immediately by Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, charged with a single task - retake the Falklands! The ensuing conflict continued until, on 14 June 1982. Port Stanley was liberated and the Argentine forces surrendered to the British Forces. Two hundred and fifty-five members of the British Task Force lost their lives at sea, in the air or on land, with many more wounded during the conflict. Thirty-four aircraft, HM Ships Sheffield, Coventry, Ardent and Antelope, Royal Fleet Auxilary Sir Galahad, Foxtrot 4 landing craft and the Merchant Vessel Atlantic Conveyor were lost. This arch commemorates their sacrifice.

To claim this Virtual cache you will need to perform two simple tasks.

1. Add a photo of yourself, a sign with your caching name on it, or your GPS device and with the Arch in the background to your Found it Log.  Your face doesn’t need to be in the photo. No spoiler photos please.

2. Send your answer to the following question to me via my profile or via email. What is the name of the designer mentioned on the pale maiden flower plaque on the Western side of the arch?

You don’t need to wait for confirmation before logging. However, any logs which do not include your photograph as per point 1 or are not followed up with the answer to the question will be deleted.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Just-Us-Two know first at justustwo1013@gmail.com so they can keep track of the memorial numbers and names to avoid any duplication.
