The fortress was built during early Byzantine period (4th-6th century AD) by emperor Justinian.
In 1789 the castel was taken by Toptani family from Kruja. They were a leading noble family, rich and well educated with strong ties with Ottoman empire, but as well with the west.
Today, here you can find a cute little street with many restaurants, shops... and one cache.
