Although redundant since 1977, Claydon church has a proud history dating back to medieval times (c1100-1200AD).
It's most famous Rector was Father George Drury (of whom the nearby cul-de-sac Drury Road is named after).
He served this church for the best part of fifty years during the nineteenth century but was far from an average Rector of a quaint backwater village.
He was a highly unconventional, headstrong man whose personal beliefs on how to run his parish led to him being physically assaulted, his property being repeatedly vandalised and his reputation attacked (he had a powerful enemy in the Bishop of Norwich).
The height of his infamy was 'The Akenham burial scandal' if you wish to read in more detail.
