As most locals know, Miamisburg has quite a railroad history. Currently, the Norfolk Southern runs freight through downtown, while CSX runs freight on the west side of the river, past the old Bridgeport Depot. Like most towns in the US, Miamisburg no longer has passenger rail service. Any Google search of Miamisburg is sure to bring up the disastrous train derailment in 1986, forcing a huge evacuation of local residents. Train derailments in the US are much more common than you would expect. With over 1,000 per year, they average 3 per day. We only hear about the catastrophic ones like the recent East Palestine.
