Geocache Description:

Bristol's oldest War Memorial

The information board at this war memorial states that this is Britain's oldest memorial, but this is very much disputed - it is certainly Bristol's oldest. This Lieutenant General was born in Bristol in 1721 and was educated at Bristol Cathedral School. After attending King's College, Cambridge he chose a military career, forming his own Regiment of Foot, during the Seven Years War. In 1762 he successfully led a major expedition in the Phillippines and served a total of 40 years in the British Army.

He was also a prominent cricketer and was involved in a key meeting in 1774 which agreed on an early set of cricket rules including the leg before wicket rule. In his later years he built a mansion in Clifton close to the War Memorial's location.

To find the War Memorial and information board's coordinates put two words into the checker: the individual's first name and surname.

At the coordinates, answer the following questions to calculate final coordinates. Use the answers as spelt on the memorial and information board. Count up the number of letters in the single-worded answers.

According to the information board:
A = What road is mentioned?
B = What is the obelisk made of?
C = What is the surname of the poet mentioned?
D = The individual was appointed to what position of Clifton Down?

At the memorials:
E = On the side of sarcophagus facing the information board what is the last word on RHS beginning with C?
F = Look for the small circular plaques. The siege name mentioned on the top left plaque, above Arcot plaque.

Answer checksum =  50
