About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breathtaking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveler, but anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Woodburn Train Depot

Welcome to Woodburn, Oregon. First, you may ask where is the train for this depot sitting in a churchyard. The depot was moved here in 1981 to be converted for church purposes. The Southern Pacific had stopped using the depot in the 1970s and threatened to demolish it. The community rallied around to preserve it. I am still researching when the depot was built, but it appears to be a standard SP depot design from the early 1900s. The railroad thru the town was built in 1871. The town was incorporated in 1889. Originally the town was to be called Halsey, but that  name was taken by another town in the southern Willamette Valley. It is rumored that in the 1880s, a slash-burn of wood got out of control. A railroad official saw the fire they renamed the area Woodburn.

The cache is nano and is accessible from the public sidewalk.
