War Memorial #1870 ~ Buntingford
Buntingford War Memorial is located in Market Hill, Buntingford. It takes the form of a Latin Cross atop a shaft on a moulded square base all made from Portland stone. The base has three steps leading to the memorial. The inscriptions are engraved into the stone and filled with lead. The top of the shaft is decorated with oak leaves, the decorations on the plinth include a carved anchor with chain, crossed rifles, a deer and a wreath. There are 45 names listed for those who died in World War 1 and 8 for those who died in World War 2. The original unveiling was on 12th September 1920 by H C Marshall.
