In 1970,the property on Bourbon st.was owned by New
Orleans Public Service(NOPSI) and was the former site of an
electric substation. In 1973 it was donated to the City of New
Orleans to be developed as a mini-park.
The park was named after Thomas Alva
Edison, the inventor, and the founder and board member of Edison
Illuminating Co.of New Orleans, the first company to make
incandescent electic lighting available to this city in
1886.
The park,completed in 1976,has become
the focus of a group of local musicians and city officals. They are
raising money to fix up the long-closed park.
