This is a lovely little station in Glascoed village, which was a former railway station. The history of the old railway running from Usk to Little Mill junction has always interested me because of the old cache that used to be here, which showed me this lovely little station. The cache is located by what looks like it is the old signal box by where the old Glascoed station used to be. It is in fact one of 3 Glascoed stations, two of which were in the BAE systems especially used in the war, BAE systems station east, and west, which are obviously innacessable.
Glascoed Halt was a request stop on the former Coleford, Monmouth, Pontypool, and Usk Railway. It was opened in 1927 to serve the village of Glascoed, Monmouthshire. It was closed in 1955 following the withdrawal of passenger services on the line. It was located near a small overbridge bridge about 14 miles and 48 chains from Monmouth Troy. The halt consisted of a timber platform and GWR style pagoda.
Twenty chains to the east on the down side a branch to the south led to the rather larger, three platform arrangement installed to serve workers at and visitors to ROF Glascoed. This branch also serviced a large rake of sidings that were only finally decommissioned in 1993 and raised some years later.
The cache container is a size small hidden in the area very close to the old signal box. It contains a stamp and some swappables, larger and smaller ones. It is a basic letterbox at the posted coords.
The stamp is attached to the front of the logbook. Please do not take it. There is no inkpad so you will need your own
