Geocache Description:

“We interrupt this programme to bring you some breaking news from the island of Vanuatu. We go live to our South Pacific correspondent, George Cache, who is in the capital Port Vila. George, what have you got for us?”

“Yes, thanks Penny. It was at sunrise this morning that Mount Yasur on Tanna Island started to emit strange smoke signals. Experts say they’re linked to a tiki from the Smolbrij tribe. I’m joined by anthropologist, Prof. Bushwhacker, to explain further.”

“That’s right George. As you may know, tiki are carvings representing ancestors and they can mark the boundaries of sacred or significant sites. On Tanna Island, the Smolbrij tribe (meaning ‘little bridge’ in the local Bislama dialect) place tiki underneath bridges to bring good fortune to those who cross over. Occasionally, tourists take home a souvenir tiki from the Smolbrij tribe to place under a bridge local to their home. If the tiki gods deem that a tiki needs to be visited, its location is vented from the cauldron of the volcano.”

"Many thanks for those fascinating insights, Professor. I’m now pleased to say that drone pilot, Murray Baudot, is at the foot of Mount Yasur to give us a bird’s eye view of the smoke signals. Over to you Murray.”

“OK George, the drone's looking directly into the cauldron. You should be able to just make out the puffs of smoke on the live feed. Let’s move in for a closer look. Oh, wait, there’s something wrong with my controller ... the screen's filling up with strange code and the drone’s heading for the volcano!”

"Well, it looks like Murray’s having some technical difficulties there. Let’s hope a technician can make sense of the code and we can get back to the live feed again. In the meantime, this is George Cache for GEO-TV and it’s back to you in the studio, Penny.”

Waypoint averaging has been used to set the co-ordinates, but tree cover could be problematic, especially at certain times of the year. Wellies or walking boots would be a wise option after heavy or prolonged rain as the paths can get muddy and GZ may flood.

Parking options are in the checker.

The Little Bridges series was started by Stanthews in 2009 to highlight small footbridges in remote parts of Wiltshire. Since then, the series has been expanded by others all over the country and starting to spread fast. There is a stats listing, so you can see how many Little Bridges you have found, you can find it here: - Little Bridges Geocaching Series. If you would like to add to the series, please go to this site, on the tab Get Involved click number request and fill in the form. To qualify, the bridge must be a foot bridge too small for vehicles, please make sure your title exactly matches “Little Bridges # xxxx then the name” including spaces so it will get picked up and added to stats list.
