On the outskirts of Lawrence Weston, along the coast where storms and high winds are prevalent, work has begun on England's largest and tallest community wind turbine. This turbine's commercial operation will be achieved by May 2023 and at time of writing the pole and two sails are in place. Having walked past it today I can confirm it is HUGE - it's fortunate that a footpath runs alongside it giving you a great view of it's construction.
Once built the turbine will comfortably operate for the next 25 years. At 150m tall with 4.2MW capacity, the turbine will be the tallest on-shore wind turbine in England (1 and a half Big Ben's and taller than the London Eye!). It will be community owned, and all profits will go entirely to fund projects that residents decide upon via Ambition Lawrence Weston community plans which are regularly consulted with residents.
