About SideTracked Caches

This cache is part of the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath taking view. It's a distraction for the weary traveller, and anyone else can go and find it too. More Information can be found at the SideTracked Website

About Ormond Station

Ormond railway station was opened on 19 December 1881.

The suburb and railway station are named after Francis Ormond. Mr Ormond was a philanthroprist and he funded the establishment of agricultural, education and religious institutes, such as the Skipton Agricultural Show, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and Ormond College.

In 1922, Ormond railway station became a passenger only line. In 2016, the station was re-built underground and the road level crossings were removed.

Ormond railway station is located on the Frankston line and connects the South Eastern suburbs to Melbourne Central Business District. The station is uniquely positioned in both Zone 1 and Zone 2. Up to 870,000 patrons commute from this station each year.

Cafes, bars, a post office, supermarket and an eclectic mix of shops are located close by on North Road.

There is a paved shared walking and cycle path in both directions to McKinnon Railway Station and Glen Huntly Railway Station.

Personal Connection

My dad has worked for the railway public transport service for over 40 years and manages several railway stations. I have spent numerous hours waiting at railway stations and I hope this SideTracked Cache helps you pass the time.

The Cache

This cache is outside railway property and should be a short walk in a fairly muggle-free area. It can be accessed from the footpath.

There is a small log and bring your own pen to sign.
