A Brief History Of Ashburton Station.

Welcome to Ashburton Railway Station or as it was known when it opened in 1890 Norwood Railway Station. This station was once part of a orbital railway line called the Outer Circle Railway Line, which ran from Oakleigh Station to Fairfield Station. This section of the Outer Circle Line is only part of it still in operation today. A large part of the Outer Circle Line was turned in to the rail trail called the Anversary Trail / Outer Circle Rail Trail which is the walking path on the opersite side of the tracks. On the 30th May 1890 Norwood station opened which was renamed Ashburton Station on the 12th December 1890 and has continued to serve passengers and the local community for over 122 years!
