Bring your mountain bike or prepare for a bit of hiking! Located 7.5kms (approx.) from the ferry, this is the easier of the two caches on French Island.
Until recent times French Island was one of Victoria’s most remote and least known destinations, although there were attempts in the 1960s to establish Australia’s first nuclear power plant on the island. The 24 km island is most famous for its colony of prolifically breeding koalas –one of Australia’s most healthy koala communities. French Island has no local government, no sealed roads, no piped water, no rates and generates its own electricity.
The Pinnacles, at 60 metres affords a fine prospect over the wetlands of the island’s west, of Westernport Bay and of Phillip Island.
Prospective visitors should note that cars cannot be ferried to the island. However the landscape is essentially flat to gently undulating, making it ideal for mountain biking.

pick up points being Cowes Jetty on Phillip Island or Stony Point.
· Bring drinking water, food and insect repellent.
· If cycling, it is highly advisable you use a mountain bike, due to the often sandy and wet conditions encountered. A repair kit is also a must.
