Geocache Description:

Just off the Highwater Trail in the Maine-side of the White Mountain National Forest. "X" marks the spot.

The cache is hidden in a six-foot tall dead tree trunk about sixteen feet off of the right side of the path. It has split down the middle and the cache is sitting in the top of the split. The hint makes it quite clear where the cache is...

Directions
Turn onto Rte 113 at Gilead and follow the road into the White Mountain National Forest. Continue along 113 for 2.9 miles until you reach a stone bridge (you can see the suspension bridge from there). Bear right at the split in the road to a parking area on your immediate right [N44 21.197, W70 59.493]. The path to Highwater Trail is beside the sign and pay slot for parking. Take the path to the suspension bridge, and you will find Highwater Trail on your immediate left after the bridge. The hike on the trail goes across a small stream feeding into the river and past the moose pond.

The area is just beautiful. Where you turn left for Highwater Trail, the right side is a trail to an area swimming hole, which you will find both popular and inviting in the summer time. When the water is low the stream is slow to moderate and you can walk in it among the rocks and have a great time. We enjoy this area in the Spring and Summer when we are up at camp.

One other item to look out for is the moose pond on the right side of Highwater Trail. During the right time of year you can see moose of all types drinking from the pond.

The cache should give away that my wife studies Russian History. Cache inventory:

  • Soviet May Day badge (cloth)
