About Woody Bay Station
Woody Bay station is the starting point for the Ruislip Lido 12 gauge "minature" railway. The first section of the railway at Ruislip Lido was built shortly after the end of World War II as part of the initial development of the Lido as a tourist attraction. Woody Bay station opened in 1946 and passengers could ride the train around a loop alongside the edge of the reservoir. For many years the railway was operated by the council, but in 1980 the non-profit making Ruislip Lido Railway Society (RLR) was formed, which took over running the railway. The RLR developed plans to expand the line, and thus the railway was extended in phases, initially to Eleanor’s Loop, then to Haste Hill station (1992) and finally to Ruislip Lido station (1997), which was more recently renamed as Willow Lawn station. This now gives a total round trip journey of over 2 miles.
