Geocache Description:

06 November 2022, 10:30 - 12:30

Alright, the community has spoken—the local puzzle audience has grown noticeably and people are hungry to turn those tough blue ?s into yellow smileys. And what better place to do it than in Singapore, with her reputation for horrendously deflated puzzle difficulty ratings..?

Okay, but before we get to the insane ones, here's Puzzle Caching 101. It's neither the most creatively-titled event, nor the event where everyone smashes through GC8VRMK or GC8EXHT before noon, signs in and goes home with bragging rights. But it's where puzzle cachers are born; that is, we hope to ignite a little fire in you, get you some momentum, and maybe prime you for a heavy addiction to whatever the local, and perhaps global, ? scene has to offer.

Puzzle Caches?: the most common type of Mystery cache, represented by the blue ? icon on the map. They are not located at the published coordinates, and require a puzzle to be solved before the true coordinates are obtained. The physical cache can be found and logged thereafter, just like any normal cache.

What's This Event About?: a gentle introduction to fundamental techniques of puzzle solving (in the Geocaching context), and a little bit of hands-on fun. The key is practice, after all. Oh, also brunch, and a little catch-up, as all events are.

Ok, I'm in!: log a simple 'Will Attend' (perhaps include one or two GC codes of your own puzzles-in-progress?) and we'll see you at what was once upon a time SGSH III HQ—Hanis Cafe & Bakery at the National Library building, Sunday 6 November, 10.30am. Or, come and go anytime you please. You sign the logbook, you get to log your attendance. Even if you're not really into puzzles, we'll still trade TBs, stories, and eat :)

What do I bring?: something to write with, and something to write on, would be great. Now, a lot of puzzles are much easier to solve, or even only solveable, using a computer. A tablet or laptop will make puzzling way easier, as you might discover during the lesson. You could bring yours, or you could just watch or share with someone, it's up to you. See below note on Wi-Fi.

What else do I prepare?: nothing much, just come bright and awake (or with caffeine in the system, or caffeinate at the venue). If you'd like some headstart though, you could consider some optional, recommended reading:

You may also want to pre-install the Adventure Lab app on your smartphone, if you don't have it already, because, you know...

Well, see you there?

Note on Wi-Fi: if you're going to need Wi-Fi access at the NLB building, you'll need to pre-install the Wireless@SGx app onto your device and set up the wireless profile on your device before coming, while you have internet access elsewhere. Yeah, I know..
