For more than three decades, the stone sculpture "Girl from Una" has been one of the recognizable symbols of Bihać.
The author of this work of art is the academic sculptor Vladimir Hrljević, who spent a good part of his life in the town on Una, and currently lives and works in Zagreb. The sculpture was ceremonially unveiled in 1986, and the idea to create it came from the late Boško Marjanović, the founder of the well-known association "Unski Smaragdi" and one of the pioneers of ecology in this area. Although in Bihać there have been disputes for decades about who served as inspiration and model for Hrljević's sculpture, the author himself says that his work idealizes the beauty of a woman, but at the same time it is a symbol of the beauty of the Una river.
"I must say that not a single woman was a model for the sculpture. It represents the idealized beauty of a woman, it is a symbol of the figure that brands the river Una and its unreal beauty. It is freed from all political and ideological forms, and in a way it is a form of expressing the freedom of a woman, her affirmations, even to the level of feminism," says Hrljević, adding that Bihać has always been a city of beautiful women.
It stood for a long time on the rampart of the medieval fortress, but due to unfavorable conditions (plants and oxidation of bronze), after restoration work, it was moved to the city's island by the river Una.
