About SideTracked Caches

This cache belongs to the SideTracked series. It is not designed to take you to a magical place with a breath-taking view. It is a distraction for the weary traveller, but anyone else can go and find it too. More information can be found at the SideTracked Website.

About Alexandra Palace Station

Alexandra Palace railway station is on the Great Northern Route that forms part of the East Coast Main Line, and takes its name from the nearby Alexandra Palace. It is in Travelcard Zone 3.

It is the only surviving station of three that have served Alexandra Palace. A former station also named Alexandra Palace, sited actually at the venue, was on the Highgate-Alexandra Palace Line, while Palace Gates (Wood Green) station was on the Palace Gates Line.

This station has gone through several name changes:

1 May 1859    Station opens as Wood Green
1 August 1864    Station renamed Wood Green (Alexandra Park)
18 March 1971    Station renamed Wood Green
17 May 1982    Station renamed Alexandra Palace

Services going South to Central London leave from Platforms 1 and 2, usually terminating at Moorgate or Kings Cross.
Services going North leave from Platforms 3 and 4. North of the station, the line divides, with half the trains running to Welwyn Garden City and the other half running to Hertford North or Letchworth Garden City.

The local Rail User group has created a station community garden and over forty planters across the platforms, as well as collaborative art projects in the foyer. The garden is pictured in the jigsaw.
