Geocache Description:

The memorial was unveiled on the 25th September 1925 and was attended by the local clergy and dignitaries. Three hundred and ninety-nine names are inscribed as causalities from the first world war.

There were lead plaques around the memorial, but these were stolen by thieves. In 2014, these were replaced with resin plaques commemorating Penge civilians that were killed in the second world war.

In 2018 a pavement plaque was laid in memory of Private Herbert Columbine, V.C. a native of Penge, commemorating his heroic sacrifice in Hervilly Wood, France.

It is this Private that we are interested in. The date on the plaque, convert the month to digits so we have AB/CD/EFGH.
