Geocache Description:

Heighington Village Sign

Heighington is a welcoming, picturesque village situated around 5 miles from the centre of the old Roman City of Lincoln. The village features attractive golden limestone houses, a peaceful beck and a relaxing rural back drop that is hard to beat!

Heighington has an active community supported by excellent amenities which enhances the life of the village. In addition to a  local primary school and Anglican church, the village has a mini supermarket, two pubs (both serving food), a hairdressers and a beauty salon. It also has a wealth of local tradespeople and services, catering for most needs.

The village’s Jubilee Hall is used for both the educational and recreational needs of the residents, hosting all manner of clubs and groups and is popular to hire as a function venue. In addition to this, the village is fortunate to have the use of the Thomas Garrett Heritage Rooms for activities including stained glass, painting, and embroidery workshops as well as hosting exhibitions to name just a few.

The village has a sports field at Potterhanworth Road which boasts playpark equipment, a pavilion and serves both cricket and football, whilst the recreation ground on Station Road encompasses play park equipment, a pavilion, tennis court and bowling green.

There is a regular bus service into the city, however, for the more energetic there is a very well-maintained cycle track along the Witham bank giving easy access into Lincoln or to the surrounding countryside. There are many country walks, on traffic free lanes and well-maintained footpaths, around the outskirts of the village, which are well used and appreciated by walkers (with or without dogs!)

Heighington is a thriving village and is a wonderful place to both visit and live. With the Historic City of Lincoln a stone’s throw away and the beauty of rural Lincolnshire on its doorstep, you couldn’t ask for more!

About Village Sign Caches

This cache belongs to the Village Sign Series, a series of caches based on ornate signs that depict the heritage, history and culture of the villages that put them up (generally on the village green!).

The signs can be made of different materials from fibreglass to wood, from forged steel to stone. They can depict anything from local industry to historical events. The tradition probably started in Norfolk or Suffolk and has now spread across most of the country so we thought we would base a series on them!

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the Village Signs Website

If anybody would like to expand the Village Sign Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.villagesignseries.co.uk
so we can keep track of the Village Sign numbers and names to avoid duplication.
