Geocache Description:

Maritime Greenwich Revisited

The Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site comprises the historic town centre, Royal Park and related institutional buildings. The buildings at Greenwich and their landscape setting, including the Royal Park, are a great demonstration of English artistic, scientific and other institutional endeavour, mainly from the 17th to late 19th centuries. The Site has evolved through the years, having held a former royal palace until around 1670. The Queen’s House, by Inigo Jones, was the first Palladian building in England, while the Old Royal Naval College, designed initially by Sir Christopher Wren, is a grand building in the ‘English Baroque’ style.

Parking can be an expensive nightmare in Greenwich, so if you can use public transport I would advise it. There are some car parks and even some roadside parking, but it can fill up very quickly.

This Wherigo takes you to 7 of the major sights of Greenwich, outside of the Park, and you need to answer a simple question at each location. Having answered at least 6 of the questions correctly the location of the cache will be revealed - you can then choose to visit the seventh location or go straight to the cache. The zones in this cache are all on the flat and the whole walk is on pavements or surfaced footpaths, so it would be possible in a wheelchair. A quick walk round the cartridge would take less than an hour - however that would miss out on looking at the locations more closely.

Download the cartridge you need to play Maritime Greenwich Revisited.
Find out more information about Wherigo caches here. This cache was created with Earwigo.

The cache, a bison, attached magnetically, is to the east of all the zones and is outside the areas that get locked at some times of the day, thus it is available at all times.

This Wherigo is a revised version of GC7JND6 Maritime Greenwich, which was active from April 2018 to February 2022. Some zones, pictures and questions have changed, and the cache is in a different location.

There are four other Wherigo caches in Greenwich - GC7K9YR Greenwich Park and GC7MB4Q Greenwich Park Bonus which take you for a walk around Greenwich Park, GC4CJHK Church Micro 3690...Greenwich-St Alfege, by RubyShoos and GC568YW Views of London Reverse Cache, also by RubyShoos.
