[LV] Dvietes paliene ir dabas parka teritorija (iekļauta arī Natura 2000) pie Bebrenes, dibināta 2004. gadā. Šīs īpašās vietas pamatā ir Dvietes upe (lejtecē arī Ilūkstes upe) un divi ezeri pa ceļam - Dvietes un Skuķu, kuru krastos ir regulāri applūstošās palieņu pļavas. Šī ir ļoti būtiska un svarīga ūdensputnu pulcēšanās vieta pavasarī - zosis un pīles te ir vairāk nekā kāds var saskaitīt, taču šajā teritorijā kopumā fiksētas vismaz 40 īpaši aizsargājamās putnu sugas Latvijā vai ES. Dvietes upe ir visplašākā palienes teritorija visā Daugavas baseinā - Daugavas palu ūdeņiem ieplūstot Dvietes senlejā, ūdens līmenis Dvietes lejtecē pavasarī var celties vairāk nekā 6 m virs mazūdens perioda līmeņa. Sevišķi augstos palos Daugavas ūdeņi applūdina Dvietes senleju vairāk nekā 20 km garumā. Dažādu projektu ietvaros abpus Dvietes upei un abiem ezeriem notiek pļavu noganīša, kurā uzturas savvaļas zirgi un govis.
Lai atrastu slēpni, auto atstājam norādītajās stāvvietas koordinātās, rūpīgi aiztaisām vārtiņus un dodamies pa ceļu Skuķu ezera virzienā. Ļoti ļoti ļoti iespējams, ka pa ceļam sastapsiet savvaļas govis un zirgus - lielākā vai mazākā bariņā. Ar tiem droši var apsveicināties un sabildēt foršus kadrus. Slēpnis atrodas torņa augšējā stāvā, no kura paveras skaists skatus uz Skuķu ezeru, Dvietes palienu un apkārtējām ganībām. Izbaudām, dabu, klusumu un mieru šajā feinajā vietā.
PS. Piekļūšana līdz tornim var būt apgrūtināta atkarībā no laika apstākļiem - sniegotā laikā būs jābrien pa sniegu, savukārt slapjākā laikā jārēķinās ar dubļiem. Ņemam līdzi piemērotu apģērbu un apavus un rēķināmies, ka kopējā distance no stāvvietas turp-atpakaļ ir aptuveni 1,2 km.

[EN] Dviete floodplain is a nature park (also Natura 2000) near Bebrene, founded in 2004. The park is based around the Dviete River (also known as the Ilūkste River downstream) and two lakes along the way - Dviete and Skuķu, with regularly flooded meadows along their shores. This is a very important and significant gathering place for waterfowl in spring - there are more geese and ducks here than one can count, but at least 40 specially protected bird species in Latvia or the EU have been recorded in this area. The Dviete River floodplain is the largest in the entire Daugava basin - as the waters of the Daugava River enter the Dviete valley, the water level in the Dviete downstream can rise more than 6 meters above the low-water level. In the highest floods, the waters of the Daugava inundate the Dviete valley for more than 20 km. Various projects are carried out on both sides of the Dviete River and both lakes to maintain the meadows, where wild horses and cattle roam.
To find the cache, park your car at the specified coordinates, carefully close the gates and head towards Skuķu lake along the road. It is very likely that you will encounter wild cows and horses along the way - in larger or smaller herds. You can greet them and take some cool photos. The cache is located on the top floor of the tower, which offers beautiful views of Skuķu lake, the Dviete floodplain, and the surrounding pastures. Enjoy the nature, peace, and quiet in this fine place.
PS. Access to the tower may be difficult depending on the weather conditions - in snowy weather, you will have to walk through the snow, while in wetter weather, you should expect mud. Take appropriate clothing and footwear and be prepared that the total distance from the parking lot back and forth is approximately 1.2 km.
